After five years of development Willy Jetman: Astromonkey’s Revenge is now a reality. Available from January 31st for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and Steam, it is the result of the efforts of Last Chicken Games, a small studio from Barcelona that has written an authentic declaration of love to the classics of the 80s and 90s. A very particular Metroidvania that will thrill veterans and surprise younger players with the toughness of their bosses. Willy Jetman: Astromonkey’s Revenge combines shooter action, platforming and adventure in an odyssey that will force you to explore every inch of planet Gravos, both on its surface and within its complex cave system. As with any good Metroidvania, as you improve your equipment you’ll be able to retrace your steps to reach previously inaccessible areas.

SOME REALLY TOUGH BOSSES
If there’s one thing the 80s taught us, besides combining jeans with pilot jackets, it’s to learn the attack patterns of the bosses in every video game. What FromSoftware preaches today in its creations was already the cornerstone of the games of the 80s and early 90s, and in Willy Jetman it is a true reflection of that philosophy
Learn the patterns of each boss and discover the combination of weapons capable of neutralizing him. Like Capcom’s Mega Man, each Gravos creature (including the bosses) is more sensitive to a particular type of weapon. Read the description of each weapon in your arsenal carefully, there’s the key to success.
IN SPACE NO ONE WILL HEAR YOUR LAUGHTER
From the very beginning of the game, Willy Jetman: Astromonkey’s Revenge shows that its creators have taken their work with as much passion as they have a sense of humour. We won’t fall into the spoiler’s realm, but the fact that the AI accompanying Willy in his adventure has been named Gladys (after Portal’s GLaDOS), may give you some clues as to the tone of the game.
Willy Jetman’s humor is not just reduced to dialogues. Throughout the game, you’ll discover a host of tributes to pop icons, including a certain classic Anime, that will leave you speechless.
TONS OF SECRETS
As in all good Metroidvania, exploration is one of the main pillars on which Willy Jetman: Astromonkey’s Revenge rests. At the start of the game your main objective will be to collect the wreckage of the AC-137 cargo ship and take it to the nearest recycling point, but little by little you’ll discover that the planet Gravos hides much more than it appears at first glance.
Use the map to locate areas you haven’t yet explored and use your equipment upgrades to open up new exploration routes. The improved jetpack will allow you to fly higher and longer and the grenade launcher will unlock access to some caves. There are rumours that there are two timed mazes on the planet, plus some golden statues that could give you access to unique upgrades…
A TRUE INDIE PRODUCTION
The term “indie” has been used so many times that it seems to have lost its original meaning. But in the case of Willy Jetman: Astromonkey’s Revenge it is more than justified. Last Chicken Games is a small team from Barcelona made up of only five people (four of them are brothers) who worked tirelessly for 5 years to set up this jewel Made in Spain.
Every level, every enemy, every line of dialogue in Willy Jetman is the result of years of dedication by a team that grew up with 8-bit video games, and dreamed of creating the adventure they always wanted to play as kids.
